Some time mid last year I went in to this whole ordeal about shooting only in black and white and how it would help me with composition. I called that my monochrome Phase and it also involved my instagram posts. Those of you who've actually seen my insta feed would have noticed about 2 months worth of black and white photos, needless to say those have been gone for a while.
My lessons from that time have been great. I started to see things and objects differently which then led me to shooting in a minimalist style; a simple concept which allowed me to play with shapes and how they looked in contrast to each other.
My biggest take away from this phase was how monochrome helped me tell a better story. I often took photos of people in the street and when I showed others, there was always a conversation to be had about the context of the photo, which was great.
It's now safe to say that I am out of my monochrome phase, have been for about 2 months or so, and I've learned some great lessons. I still enjoy shooting in black and white now and then so be on the look out for more of those kinds of shots.
